TO START

According to the three main campus traditions: Scott Tradition, Morrill Tradition, and Kennedy Tradition, we could divide dormitories on campus into three main groups: North Dormitory Group, West Dormitory Group, and South Dormitory Group. According to statistics, the South Dormitory Group has the most dormitories. There are 20 dormitories in this group, and 70 percent of them have an air conditioner. “Living in the south dormitory is pretty good if you do not live in Baker East.” said by Yuheng Sun, an international student who lives in Baker East.

The West Dormitory Group is the smallest one in these three dormitory groups. There are only 2 buildings on the west part of the main campus. “ The good thing of living in Morrill Tower is we next to the RPAC. But it is far from my classroom,” said Hongxuan Zhao, an international student who lives in the Morrill Tower. Morrill Tower and Lincoln Tower are two very tall buildings next to RAPC and Thompson Library, which makes them two best places to see the sunset. Besides, there is a computer room in the Lincoln Tower, which could enrich students’ lives in their spare time. The Morrill Tradition is just in the Morrill Tower, which could save students’ time. “Since we have a central air conditioner, the temperature and humidity in the West Dormitory Group are better than those in the South Dormitory Group. But the dormitory in the Morrill Tower is closed type.” also said by Hongxuan. In conclusion, living in the West Dormitory Group, you will have a pretty good living condition, but you need to live in a suit with at least 3 students, which means you will have less personal space.

I am a student living in Baker Hall West, a south dormitory without an air conditioner. From my perspective, the location of Baker Hall is quite great. I can go to most of our campus with 20 minutes because there is a bus station just in front of my dorm. Besides, my dorm is next to High street, if I want to buy something or hang out, it is very convenient for me. The only problem is the summer. Since there is no air conditioner in my dormitory, it will be very hot in summer. There are only two bathrooms at our building, it will be very hard to take a shower in summer because everybody is hot. However, at the end of the summer, I find a solution to overcome this. I could spend my day in 18th Ave Library and RPAC, and only go back to my dorm when the temperature is not so hot. Except for the temperature problem, I think that living in the South Dormitory Group everything is fine.

Help Provided by University

Whenever students meet problems in their off-campus house, they could ask The Ohio State University for help. There is a department called student legal service, which could provide legal help to students. Each new student need to pay 40 dollars at the beginning of the Autumn Semester, for those students who join the students legal service plan in Spring or Summer Semesters, they need to pay 23 dollars or 6 dollars.( paraphrase from the the university website: https://studentlegal.osu.edu/about/eligibility ). Except the legal help, the Ohio State University could also provide students with some physical help. For off-campus students, the university could offer free window and door alarms and light timers. All those staff are free. Students could go and get them at room 3106 in the third floor of the Ohio Union, on Monday to Friday, from 8 a.m. to 5p.m.( paraphrase from the university website:https://offcampus.osu.edu/safety/ )
